St Petersburg Overview

St. Petersburg is located in Pinellas County, Florida bordering Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. According to the US Census Bureau in 2004, the city of Saint Petersburg had a population of 249,090, the fourth largest in the state of Florida.


It is nicknamed "The Sunshine City" with an average of 360 days of sunshine each year. It has become a popular tourist destination and retirement area because of its warm and sunny climate.

St Petersburg Business and Job Market

St Petersburg and the surrounding area is home to many businesses and some its largest employers are the Bayfront Medical, Home Shopping Network, Raymond James and Associates, Ratheon E-Systems, and Times Publishing.


The area is expected to have a population growth rate over the next ten years of 15.3 percent creating a large labor pool for businesses.


St Petersburg Real Estate

St Petersburg is a booming real estate market with its beautiful beaches, parks and access to world class restaurants, shops and professional sports teams. There is a large selection of condos, apartments, and single family homes in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area. St. Petersburg is surrounded by a seven county area consisting of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Sarasota, Hernando and Manatee counties. This area is also known as the Tampa Bay area and home to more than 3.5 million people.


St Petersburg Colleges and Universities

St Petersburg has many colleges and universities in the area including a branch of the University of South Florida St Petersburg. Also located in Pinellas County is St Petersburg College, Eckerd College, and Stetson University College of Law. A school for journalists is also located in this area called the Poynter Institute.


St Petersburg Vacations

The adjacent towns of Clearwater and St. Petersburg are located on the Pinellas Peninsula in an area known as Florida's sunshine capital. The western shoreline of the peninsula is lapped by the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and boasts 35 miles (56 km) of some of the best beaches in the world.

St. Petersburg is located in the middle of the peninsula and about 10 miles (16 km) from St Pete Beach to the south. The city is home to several art galleries and museums, including the Florida International Museum which displays a permanent President J. F. Kennedy exhibit. St Petersburg's picturesque downtown area has a waterfront promenade and the famous pier provides bay views.

Some of the most beautiful, broad beaches on Florida's Gulf Coast are to be found in and around Clearwater, home port for the largest recreational fishing fleet on the west coast. Pier 60 is the sightseeing and fishing focal point of the beach. Pier 60 Park is home to "Sunsets at Pier 60", the nightly festival that celebrates the spectacular Gulf of Mexico sunsets across the fleet at anchor.
