If you have never been issued a drivers license in any state or country the state of Florida requires that you complete a First Time Driver education course.
Florida first time driver courses teach drivers how drugs and alcohol affect driving, traffic responsibilities and laws and techniques for safe driving.
Courses are commonly known as:
While teenagers getting their learners permit (restricted license) typically take this course, adults who have never held a drivers license must take it as well.
There are many approved courses - the schools listed below are located in the state of Florida and provide the First Time Driver courses online
High School Driver - provides a DMV approved Learners Permit Course and has free practice tests for the DMV exam. High School Driver focuses on teenagers getting their learners permit and their courses are approved statewide.
Florida Drivers Association - provides a DMV Approved First Time Driver Course online. All Florida Drivers Association traffic school courses are approved in all Florida counties.
Once you complete a first time driver course the State of Florida requires that you pass a written exam that tests your knowledge of road signs and road rules. The DMV exam is 50 questions. Approximately 5 of the questions test your knowledge of road signs and 45 questions test road rules.
Both the traffic schools listed offer a course that prepares you to pass the DMV test the first time. A high percentage of people fail the DMV test the first time they take it. In that situation you have to go home, make a new appointment and return the DMV to take the test over.
NOTE: As of July 6, 2011 the DMV Test CAN be taken online by those under 18 - if you are 18 or older you must take the DMV test at a local DMV office.
Note that HighSchooDriver.com has free practice tests for the DMV exam on both road signs and road rules.
