Who is this training made for?
You can begin the Florida Driver Education Traffic Safety program at 14 1/2 years old. However, you must be at least 15 to apply for your learner’s permit. This curriculum is required for all teens applying for their state learner’s permit between the ages of 15 and 17.
How long does is the program?
The training is designed to take six hours, and you can log in and out as needed. Your progress is saved automatically.
Is this approved by the state?
Yes, it is officially approved by the FLHSMV and satisfies the necessary requirements for applying for a learner’s permit.
Did the DETS program replace TLSAE?
Yes. In August 2025, the DETS program officially replaced Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) as the required training for first-time drivers. To earn your Florida learner’s permit, you must now complete the mandatory DETS program.
Can I take the Florida driver’s permit exam online?
If you're under 18, you can take the official Florida permit exam online. If you're 18 or older, you must take the exam in person at an FLHSMV local office.
How do I receive my certificate of program completion?
